My Bio
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 23 years of experience. My academic training includes a Master’s Degree in Social Work, from Texas State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin. After I completed my Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2001, I gained valuable experience working in the hospital system for several years. In my former career, I worked in the medical and pharmaceutical sales industry.
I have completed Peter Levine’s three-year training program in Somatic Experiencing and I have achieved the designation of Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). This approach engages body awareness as a powerful tool in therapy; which helps to bring the nervous system back on line and assists the individual in restoring their sense of safety. It is fulfilling to be able bring several impactful modalities to my work that help clients achieve paradigm shifts and life transformations.
After struggling with insomnia for several years, I finally found the help that I needed in a treatment called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). After successfully following the course of treatment, I am happy to say that I no longer have insomnia. That inspired me to complete the recommended training with two renowned experts in the field of behavioral sleep medicine. I believe in it so much that I am thrilled to also offer CBT-I treatment in my practice.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is an evidence-based, multi-component treatment approach for the treatment and management of insomnia. It involves targeting different factors that may impact your sleep. This treatment is considered to be short-term, meaning the duration of treatment can be between 5-8 sessions. If you experience difficulties falling and/or staying asleep, and/or waking up too early despite adequate opportunity for sleep and it is impacting your ability to function during the day, this treatment may be for you.
The modalities that I use in my practice are:
Somatic Experiencing (SE) for working with trauma and other shock emotions.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Attachment Focused Therapy.
